BA (with Honors) in Architecture
Key Points
This is a 5-year honors course designed in accordance with national and international architectural education guidelines. The B.Arch. (Hons) at WIT was the first outside of Dublin to receive full accreditation from the Royal Institute of Architects of Ireland (RIAI) in 2005. It is also recognized under European Directive 2005/36 / EC. Studying architecture in an accredited program is the first step to becoming a registered professional architect.
Architectural education at WIT is primarily about developing within each student a ‘design mind’ so that they can creatively unite the complex challenges facing the future world of architecture. building. Students are introduced to design methodologies and work in a “learning-by-doing” environment in the studio, where they explore architectural designs that increase in complexity as they progress through the different years. Students learn the importance of culture, climate, and crafts in developing design ideas. These study-based projects feed off the supporting themes grouped under the generic headings of ‘Cultural Context’, ‘Communications’, ‘Technology and Environment’ and a set of electives that include work placements.
International links
Agreements have been signed with architecture schools in France, Mexico and Germany that facilitate study exchange programs. Languages are taught as electives to encourage students to take advantage of these travel opportunities. Annual trips to European capitals are made at all stages of the course.
