This program has been developed in response to the marked growth in demand for individuals with knowledge, competencies and skills in performance analysis on a variety of sports teams and National Governing Bodies (NGB).

This innovative master’s program (NFQ Level 9, 90 credits) will prepare graduates for future opportunities in performance analysis by offering a combination of theory and practice, ensuring practical knowledge supported by a theoretical foundation. The program is aligned with a number of national sport governing bodies to facilitate experiential learning. Graduates will be well equipped to serve sports organizations and teams (national and international), and nurture and advance the sports performance analysis research agenda, in Ireland and internationally.

Special features

Students take an 8-month experiential learning module and also work with a sports team or teams throughout the year / season. This module gives the student the opportunity to apply the knowledge and skills acquired in their study program, in contexts of live sports performance analysis and to facilitate the student in the development of practical skills, soft skills and communication skills necessary to function as an effective sport. performance analyst. This module runs in parallel with the student’s studies. Students have worked with a variety of sports teams at different levels including: provincial junior rugby, international junior and senior basketball teams, senior club teams in Gaelic football, county senior hurling teams, hockey teams of clubs and football teams of the First Division.

This program is highly vocational and practical and is carefully aligned with the demands of the industry, but backed by strong theoretical foundations. The program will be beneficial to those who wish to pursue future opportunities in performance analysis, current employees in a club or organization with a performance analysis role, and coaches who wish to improve their knowledge and skills.

Students also have access to our innovative athletic performance analysis lab at IT Carlow. They will have the opportunity to learn how to use and apply the latest performance analysis software in their practice (Sportscode Elite, NacSport, Dartfish and Quintic).

Admission requirements

Applicants require a Bachelor’s degree in:
