The Diploma in Hotel Operations provides students with fundamental knowledge in a variety of areas within the hotel industry. This includes organizing and performing guest service front desk functions, managing housekeeping operations, overseeing a team of hospitality professionals, and more. Students will be prepared for a variety of positions in the hospitality industry, such as an event coordinator, human resources coordinator, guest services agent, and more.

Learning methods

Students taking the day program will follow the same course schedule every week for the entire 26-week program.
Students taking the Evening Program will begin their program with a 2-week Job Search Preparation Course prior to taking their first 6-week course. After each 6-week course, students take a 2-week break before starting their next course.

Program structure

Prepares students for careers in hospitality by presenting and describing opportunities in hospitality management. These opportunities include careers in a variety of businesses, including hotels, restaurants, institutions, private clubs, casinos, consulting firms, travel agencies, and cruise ships.

Get a comprehensive introduction to hotel accounting concepts and procedures, hotel financial data processing, and the flow of financial information in the accounting cycle that results in the production of financial statements.

Learn to develop effective supervisory and management skills that are essential for success in the industry. Topics include how to recruit, select, and train; increase productivity; control labor costs; communicate effectively; manage conflicts and changes; and use time management techniques.

Increase the efficiency of the front office and help sales grow with the knowledge and skills acquired in this course. Topics include revenue management and the latest technology applications. Find out how front desk activities and functions affect other departments and how to manage the main office to ensure your property goals are met. Case studies and real-world examples offer a practical industry perspective.

No property can be profitable without clean rooms and efficient cleaning operations. Learn what it takes to manage this important department. This course provides a comprehensive overview, from the overview of quality staff recruitment and retention, planning and organization, to the technical details for cleaning each area of the hotel.

This course will provide the foundation you need to oversee the provision of quality gastronomic service, including responsible alcoholic beverage service, as well as on-site food and beverage operations.

In this course, students will prepare to bring their new skills and knowledge to the job market. Students will focus on defining their future goals and career aspirations, learning how to write effective resumes and cover letters, interview basics, and what employers are looking for. Students will complete the course feeling prepared to find work in their new field.

Admission requirements

  • Students who are interested in this Greystone College program must have a high school diploma or equivalent (accepted high school diplomas must be from Canada or the US).
  • International students will require a Bachelor’s degree from their country of origin. The degree and grades must be officially translated into English.
  • In Toronto, students must be at least 18 years old and pass a qualifying exam approved by the superintendent.
  • All applicants whose first language is not English must demonstrate Intermediate level 3 of English with Greystone College’s online written and oral test.
  • All students must have their own device (tablet / phone / laptop) to access course materials through our Learning Management System (LMS).

The online written and oral test is exempt if TOEFL iBT 55, IELTS 5.0 or ILSC I3 is taken. If an applicant does not meet the minimum requirements, neither the institution nor the student can waive it.
