BEng (with Honors) in Electronic Systems
Key points
Electronics is at the heart of everyday life. Consumer electronics, mobile devices, vehicles, renewable energy systems, medical devices, wearable fitness technologies, as well as advanced robotics are now ubiquitous. As these technologies continue to evolve and grow, trained electronics engineers continue to work at the forefront of this technological revolution. Electronic engineers work in cutting-edge research and development (R&D), advanced semiconductor manufacturing, design, prototyping, software simulation, coding, new product development, and applications.
Our electronics courses offer a combined combination of lectures, hands-on labs, and project-based (practical) learning elements. Extensive use is also made of computer aided design (CAD) software tools and simulation resources.
Program results
- Master problem solving and critical thinking
- Develop practical CAD prototypes and teamwork skills
- Learn circuit design, coding, and analysis techniques
- Understand how the Internet works
Special features
- Combination of theoretical and practical elements with an extensive design project in year 4.
- Latest computer aided design software (Cadence, Xilinx, Proteus), tools and simulation labs.
- Our students have won prestigious awards in national competitions, for example MIDAS Ireland Electronics Winner in 2019 and runners-up in 2018 and 2017.
Career outlook
There is a wide range of career opportunities that cover different areas and branches of electronic engineering. Ireland’s electronics and ICT industry continues to thrive and has export earnings of over € 10 billion a year. Ireland has similarities to Silicon Valley in San Francisco as all major electronics companies are based here, for example Intel, Apple, Analog Devices, Qualcomm, Dell, Microchip, Boston Scientific, Medtronic, Xilinx, ARM, Cypress, HUAWEI and Maxim. Integrated, to name just a few. All of these high-tech companies require a continuous supply of talented electronic engineering graduates.
