The program will allow graduates to have the ability to develop creative and innovative solutions to technical problems using their engineering expertise. Using their knowledge of aeronautical engineering, they will be able to apply new technological developments to the design, manufacture, testing, operation and maintenance of aircraft.

Program description

The main objectives of this Master’s program are the following:

  • Provide graduates with a detailed knowledge of advanced methods in aeronautical engineering, including theoretical foundations, computational and experimental methods and engineering applications.
  • Satisfy the industrial need of graduates with the above qualities at the Master’s level.
  • Publicize the opportunities offered by current research in Aeronautical Engineering and its application to current practice. </ span >
  • Meet the requirements of Engineers Ireland for a master’s degree in an engineering discipline as a minimum educational standard for the state of Chartered Engineer .
  • Improve the existing educational base and employment prospects for graduates.

Career options

Potential careers for graduates are vast and include all elements of aerospace, automotive, engineering design, advanced manufacturing, and construction.

Program structure

The program is offered with four core modules, three of which represent the research project for the program and advanced technical communication for engineers. Depending on the electives chosen, students will receive a master’s degree in a specialized area, aerodynamics and fluid dynamics, aerostructures, aerospace computational methods, or a general aeronautical engineering degree.

Semester 1 – Fall

  • Research project
  • Advanced technical communication for engineers

Four optional subjects * to choose from:

  • Boundary layer theory
  • Computational fluid dynamics
  • Fundamentals of continuum mechanics
  • Finite element analysis
  • Aerospace metallic materials
  • Composite aircraft structures
  • Simulation and dynamics of aircraft flight
  • Aerodynamics 2

Semester 2 – Spring

  • Research project

Four optional subjects * to choose from:

  • Introduction to heat transfer
  • Propulsion systems
  • Microfluids
  • Advanced CFD
  • Aircraft control systems
  • Engineering mechanics of plastics and compounds
  • Fracture mechanics
  • Advanced aircraft structures
  • Non-linear FEA
  • Aircraft leasing basics

Semester 3 – Summer

  • Research project

* It could happen that an elective module may not work if there are not enough numbers.

Admission requirements

  • The minimum requirement for entry to the program is an Honors Degree (or equivalent) (Level 8 – < a href = “http://www.nqai.ie/”> National Qualifications Authority of Ireland ) in Aeronautical Engineering, or related field.
  • For international candidates, the foreign equivalent is required. In addition, an officially translated degree will be required.
  • IELTS 6.5, with no less than 6 in any component (or its internationally recognized equivalent).
