Graduates of this MSc. or the integrated awards, i.e. the Graduate Certificate / Diploma have the potential for employment in multiple domains of practice. There are multiple areas for career advancement, both nationally and internationally, and the master’s degree is identified as an essential requirement for career advancement and advancement in administrative and clinical management positions. Alternatively, graduates would be in an ideal position to continue in doctoral programs.

Evaluation information

Assessment is an ongoing process that aims to measure student performance in relation to learning outcomes. It is combined with appropriate feedback to help students improve their performance in relation to the established criteria for progression to or toward the degree. The assessment can be practical or theoretical, formative and / or summative, and can be administered by teachers, the students themselves or their peers. The use of self and peer assessment is used strictly as a formative strategy to develop students’ abilities to measure and evaluate their own performance and that of their peers.

The evaluation strategies focus on the measurement of results and competencies identified in this program. At the beginning of each academic year, all students receive an assessment calendar so that they can plan and organize their work. Each module has clear grading criteria that are available to students and external examiners when they review the work. All assessments are based on the premise of integrating and applying theory to practice, while also achieving and displaying the various competencies occupied for students completing a Level 9 program.

Admission requirements

Students applying to enter undergraduate or graduate programs must provide the following information directly to the International Office, Athlone Institute of Technology on or before May 1 for programs beginning in September:

• Complete AIT application form
• Detailed CV
• Certified transcripts of test results and English translations of grades not issued in English
• Evidence of ability to follow classes in the English language (which must satisfy the entrance requirements to the Institute for the following programs)
  • Basic level program: Certificate in English for academic studies: Minimum IELTS 4.5 or equivalent
  • Pre-session summer program in English from June to August: minimum IELTS 5.0 or equivalent
  • Undergraduate programs: Minimum IELTS 5.5 without Band less than 5.0
  • Postgraduate programs: Minimum IELTS 6.0 without Band less than 5.5 *

* Please note that some graduate programs require a minimum of IELTS 6.5

• Letter of recommendation from the corresponding department head of the institution itself
• Any other relevant information about qualifications or previous work experience

For this program

• A 2: 1 Bachelor of Nursing (Level 8) or equivalent qualification will be required to enter this program.

• Applicants from outside the EU must provide evidence of ability to follow classes in English (IELTS 6.5 or equivalent). Applicants may be required to attend AIT for an interview. An interview can be arranged via Skype for international students
