This program will prepare you for success in customer relationship-driven workplaces, providing a pathway to work in organizations such as restaurants, hotels, motels, clubs, pubs, cafes, coffee shops, and retail stores.
With this qualification, students will be able to specialize in areas such as lodging services, food and beverage, and retail, or put their diverse skills to support the needs of small businesses.
Students will learn effective communication skills, how to handle conflict and handle customer complaints, how to work in a team, and how to develop knowledge about products and services to deliver relevant information to customers.

Learning methods

Students taking the day program will follow the same course schedule from 9:00 am to 2:30 pm during all parts of study. During the first 24 weeks of the program, students will also take the Job Placement Skills Course (Part 1 and 2) during the afternoon block 2: 45-4: 00 PM to prepare for their cooperative. After completing the final course, students will begin their cooperative work practices.

Students taking the Evening Program will begin their program with a 2-week Job Search Preparation Course prior to taking their first 6-week course. After each 6-week course, students take a 2-week break before starting their next course.

Co-op experience

This paid work experience placement is an integral part of the Co-op program. Students will apply theories learned in class in real-world work settings that are relevant to their field of study and aligned with the learning objectives of the program.

The program’s orientation and pre-placement classes will prepare you to find a suitable placement. During the work experience period, you will receive the support and guidance of a dedicated cooperative coordinator who will work with you and ensure that you receive all the support that is needed to successfully complete the program.

Program structure

In this workplace-focused course, students will develop workplace communication skills. Key communication skills in the workplace include: collecting, transmitting, and receiving information along with completing routine written correspondence.

In this course, students will develop teamwork skills for the workplace. The course covers topics such as working in a group setting, promoting team commitment and cooperation, supporting team members, and effectively dealing with issues, problems, and conflicts.

In this course, students will learn how to properly operate word processing applications to produce documents in the workplace.

In this course, students will learn to properly create and use spreadsheets and charts using industry standard spreadsheet software.

In this course, students will gain the knowledge necessary to obtain and use current and emerging information about the hotel, tourism and travel industry. Students will develop research skills to stay current on industry structure and technology issues and integrate this essential knowledge on a daily basis to work effectively in industry.

In this course, students will gain the knowledge necessary to provide customers with information and assistance about facilities, products, and services. They will learn how to identify customer needs and how to build their knowledge base to provide relevant and useful information.

In this course, students will gain the knowledge necessary to provide critical customer service to both internal and external customers. Good customer service requires the ability to greet and serve customers and respond effectively to customer service inquiries, including routine customer problems.

The course is divided into 2 sections: Work Practice Skills (WPS) 1 and 2.

WPS 1 acts as an introduction to everything you need to know about living and working in Canada and assists students in the process of applying for a Social Security Number (SIN) . It also prepares students for the workplace, helping them apply for jobs and making sure their resumes and cover letters meet industry standards.

WPS 2 prepares students for their cooperative work experience and develops their networking skills.


During cooperative work placement, students will practice their skills at a local workplace in a position related to the specific goals of their program. Students will be required to complete work assignments assigned by the employer. Additionally, students are required to provide regular (monthly) feedback on their Greystone College placement experience, using prescribed reporting forms.

Admission requirements

  • Students interested in attending Greystone College must have completed (graduated from) their final year of general education or GED, or have mature student status.
  • International students will require a Bachelor’s degree from their country of origin. The degree and grades must be officially translated into English.
  • In Toronto, students must be at least 18 years old and pass a qualifying exam approved by the superintendent.
  • All applicants whose first language is not English must demonstrate a Beginning Level 4 of English with Greystone College’s online written and oral test.
  • All students must have their own device (tablet / phone / laptop) to access course materials through our learning management system (LMS)

Online written test and oral interview are exempt if TOEFL iBT 35, IELTS 4 or ILSC Beginner 4 is taken.
If an applicant does not meet the minimum requirements, neither the institution nor the student can waive him.
