BA (with Honors) in Business Studies

The BA (Hons) Business Studies program provides each student with a thorough knowledge and understanding of modern business studies topics and lays a firm foundation for career development in the business professions.
The program is structured in a way that provides each student with the opportunity to study for a specialist honors degree in Business Studies. The program offers students a choice of four options to complete their honors degree.
These route study options are:
- Bachelor of Arts (Honors) Business Studies – (Major in Accounting and Finance)
- Bachelor of Arts (Honors) Business Studies – (Major in Marketing)
- Bachelor of Arts (Honors) Business Studies – (Major in Management)
- Bachelor of Arts (Honors) Business Studies – (Major in IT – available beginning Fall semester 2021)
Importantly, each student has the opportunity to emphasize their choice of study as they progress from first to second and third year of study. Therefore, individuals have great flexibility in choosing business studies subjects and planning the development of their own undergraduate business education.
As they progress through the program, each student can make informed decisions about their areas of business interest and growing business experience, and can combine these with their choice of business studies subjects and career intentions. they are regularly added to the program framework to meet the future needs of different types of business organizations and the particular professional needs of our students.
Program learning outcomes
Upon completion of the program, students should be able to:
-Demonstrate a deep understanding of essential business knowledge, theoretical models and principles within the core aspects of the business.
-Assess knowledge and information, tools and techniques critically to adapt effectively to changing business environments.
-Critically assess the fundamental elements of the business, in particular accounting and finance, information technology and management and marketing, how they interrelate with other functional areas to enable effective strategic business decisions.
-Be able to identify and promote new business models in pursuit of business objectives and optimize personal productivity.
-Evaluate the responsibilities of the company’s professionals in a professional manner, identifying possible ethical dilemmas and evaluating possible solutions.
-Demonstrate a broad set of acquired business skills, including the ability to participate creatively and responsibly in teams.
-Exhibit the domain of research processes and the ability to apply it successfully in a business project applied in a professional environment.
-Reflect and demonstrate a level of academic ability at Level 8, which allows for greater academic or professional development.

Independent College Dublin has recently hired a Career and Student Experience Officer to offer robust assessment processes and feedback tools to assist in individual training sessions on behavioral competencies and career matching. This is complemented by visiting professional mentors and professional trainers who have been involved in recent years in our existing programs to facilitate student engagement with the industry. To date, significant emphasis has been placed on developing interpersonal communication and trust and the skills to communicate the value of students to an employer.
Program structure
Admission requirements
Students are required to achieve a minimum of Grade H5 at a higher level in two subjects and four O6 in ordinary level subjects (to include Mathematics and one language).
English language level equivalent to 6.0 IELTS or equivalent score for students where English is not the applicant’s native language
International students interested in enrolling in this program must provide the following information to the College:
+ Copy of the transcript of the results of the previous business course with ECTS credits
+ Complete the Independent College Dublin application form
+ Copy of the applicant’s passport
+ Copy of GNIB card if already resident in Ireland
+ Copies of any other previous academic qualification
+ Copy of English Certificate – IELTS score of 6.0 or equivalent test is required
