The Master’s Degree in Molecular Cell Biology with Bioinnovation is a unique course aimed at highly motivated students with an interest in biomedical research in the areas of cancer biology, infection / immunity or molecular neuroscience and business thinking. The course will provide you with a truly interdisciplinary educational experience by combining discipline-specific advanced training with basic scientific research, technical expertise, and business skills.

Program description

A distinctive feature of the Master in Molecular Cell Biology with Bioinnovation is that you will receive formal training in technology innovation and commercialization through modules from the UCC School of Business and Law .

With three main research topics: cancer biology, infection / immunity and molecular neuroscience, you will select projects with internationally renowned research groups from the Schools of Biochemistry, Microbiology and the Department of Anatomy / Neuroscience, after completing the specific modules of the discipline.

Not only will you possess excellent research and technical skills upon graduation, but also the business development and commercialization skills necessary for life science innovation.

Career options

You will be in an ideal position to enter a PhD after graduation, but you could also pursue a number of career paths, including as a technology transfer officer within institutions of higher education and national agencies, R&D project manager, marketing manager within a new life sciences company, or manager within the pharmaceutical sector. The course will also equip you with the necessary skills to develop your own start-up business.

A first target survey of our inaugural class of 2012-13 has revealed that 100% of graduates have a job or higher education within one year of completing the Master’s Degree in Molecular Cell Biology with Bioinnovation.

Admission requirements

  • Applicants must possess a Bachelor’s degree with honors (NFQ Level 8) in Biological Sciences, Medicine or Pharmaceutical Sciences.
  • For international candidates, the foreign equivalent is required. In addition, an officially translated degree will be required.
  • IELTS 6.5, with no less than 6 in any component (or its internationally recognized equivalent).
