MSc in Biodiversity and Conservation

This program has been designed to provide students with a solid theoretical and practical foundation in the science of biological diversity and its conservation.
It will run for a period of twelve months, intensively and full-time. All modules are compulsory for candidates for the Master’s Degree and for those who wish to obtain the Diploma, they must take everything except the Research Project.
The program provides in-depth training and experience for those seeking to advance their career in various aspects of biodiversity and its conservation, for students who wish to undertake further postgraduate research in this area, and for professionals already working in conservation biology who wish to obtain relevant qualifications.
Program structure
The program is taught in modules, and these are grouped into theoretical components, practical research skills, and modules dealing with individual desktop and experimental research projects. The course is delivered through a variety of methods: lectures, practical classes, learning in the field, guided reading and discussion groups and web-based methods. A variety of assessment procedures are used: essay writing, oral presentations, web-based tests, exams, and dissertations. The focus is to progressively develop a high degree of independent thinking and academic excellence in the students who complete the program.
After successfully completing the theoretical part of the program, students embark on a supervised research project of about three months in duration, aimed at expanding the skills and knowledge base acquired in previous modules.
Admission requirements
- Bachelor of Science that includes major components of botany, zoology, or a relevant life science. Notes and title must be officially translated into English.
- A standard of proficiency in the English language that will allow full participation in course work, class work, and other activities; this means an IELTS level of 6.5 overall with no component below 6.0.
- Candidates with relevant and significant experience as professionals in biodiversity management or policy may be accepted with lower qualifications.
