The Master of Applied Cybersecurity is designed to produce highly trained and knowledgeable graduates to counter the threat of cybersecurity. This course focuses on developing practical skills supported by theoretical knowledge. An essential part of the master’s degree is the creation of a body of work presented as a thesis that demonstrates proficiency in research methods, analysis, and report writing. Graduates of this program will be independent learners, good problem solvers, and seasoned researchers.

Students of this Master in Applied Cybersecurity will also have the opportunity to participate in Capture-the Flag competitions and, through their course work, will be involved with problems of the real world with businesses so that program graduates have the skills to make a difference in the workplace.
The Master of Computing program is of particular value for those with a primary degree in computer science, IT or equivalent, who work as IT professionals. It is also valuable for individuals with a computer science background who wish to develop their career towards work in a research-oriented environment at the graduate level.

Program structure

Path 1: One option is to take three more taught modules and a 30-credit research project. This path would suit students who are new to the discipline and require more taught modules and a smaller research project.

Students must complete 6 modules and a thesis. All modules have 10 ECTS credits. The research project is 30 ECTS credits.

Path 2: The other path is to take a 60 credit research project module path. This path would be adapted to students who have a background in the discipline and who wish to devote more time to the research element of the masters and develop their research capabilities.

90 ECTS credits that make up the Research Project (60 ECTS credits) with the balance made up of 30 credits to be taken from one of the group’s electives (GE1, GE2 or GE3) in semester 1.

Admission requirements

  • Grading scale.
  • Grade / End date (in both original and translated language). 2nd Grade Honors Class 2 (GPA 2.5 or equivalent) in a Bachelor of Science (Honors) Bachelor of Science in Computer Science level 8 or Graduate Diploma or equivalent.
  • Transcripts for each year of study (both in original and translated language).
  • English Proficiency Test / Exam Date: If English is not your first language, you will need to provide evidence of your English proficiency as detailed on our website. Applicants for this program must have a minimum proficiency in English IELTS (academic version) of 6.5 overall (or equivalent) with at least a 6 in each component.
