The BA (Hons) in Accounting and Finance prepares students for a career in Accounting and Finance. The program provides a comprehensive education in the quantitative and analytical skills required in business and in a variety of accounting practices. The accountant’s role falls within the broader business context delivered through a variety of business-relevant electives.

The program builds on well-established and recognized core competencies within the Independent College Dublin in delivering the highest quality accounting and finance tuition.

In addition, the importance of new and emerging technologies is recognized and incorporated into the content of the program in its three stages.

Following the review process, the overall objectives of the Bachelor (Honors) in Accounting and Finance were reviewed as follows:

  1. Provide students with knowledge and understanding of the fundamental theories, concepts, and methods of accounting and finance and the interrelationships between accounting and finance and other broader business functions.
  2. To equip students with the ability to prepare a series of standard financial statements for use by management in a business environment and to interpret the business implications of such information.
  3. Create an environment in which students can work effectively in teams and independently, to critically evaluate, think creatively, and communicate effectively regarding issues in various areas of accounting and finance. </ li>
  4. Provide links with accounting and financial bodies to maximize opportunities for participation and optimize professional development for students.
  5. Facilitate the student’s development of a variety of transferable skills that are directly complementary and relevant to the workplace.
  6. Provide students with the knowledge and foundation to continue studying successfully in professional or graduate programs.

Program learning outcomes

Upon completion of the program, students should be able to:

-Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of accounting and financial concepts and techniques, including current reporting standards and a variety of contemporary topics.

-Apply knowledge and professional competence in the preparation of accounting and financial information for internal and external reports, and interpret the meaning and relevance of that information.

-Analyze contemporary theories and practices on financial management, risk and the functioning of the accounting and financial function.

-Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of internal control problems in companies and the effects of the regulatory environment on financial information.

-Evaluate the ethical responsibilities of accounting, financial and related professionals, identify possible ethical dilemmas that may arise and evaluate possible solution approaches.

-Creating, evaluating and evaluating options that allow effective problem solving and decision-making, making use of appropriate qualitative, quantitative and ICT techniques and skills.

-Display a variety of personal and interpersonal skills, including the ability for continuous learning, independent inquiry, effective communication, meeting deadlines, and successful teamwork.

-Demonstrate a level of academic and professional ability that supports progression to academic programs and / or additional professional studies for relevant professional exams.

Admission requirements

Students are required to achieve a minimum of Grade H5 at a higher level in two subjects and four O6 in ordinary level subjects (to include Mathematics and one language).

English language level equivalent to 6.0 IELTS or equivalent score for students where English is not the applicant’s native language

International students interested in enrolling in this program must provide the following information to the College:
+ Copy of the transcript of the results of the previous business course with ECTS credits
+ Complete the Independent College Dublin application form
+ Copy of the applicant’s passport
+ Copy of GNIB card if already resident in Ireland
+ Copies of any other previous academic qualification
+ Copy of English Certificate – IELTS score of 6.0 or equivalent test is required
