The Master of Engineering in Innovative Technology aims to produce graduates with strong critical thinking skills and the creative attitude necessary to instigate future developments in the field of Engineering Technology. The student will achieve academic mastery in their field of expertise while developing a broad understanding of other related fields and how they converge.

The student will embark on a program that will evaluate and analyze a number of emerging technologies and the development potential for the convergence of these technologies. The course aims to prepare students for a rewarding career in industry or academic research. In addition, the course will facilitate the development of a set of personal and professional attributes that will allow them greater flexibility in developing their own professional options. The program is designed to develop the student’s knowledge and skills in innovation management strategies, product design and development, and optimal routes to market. The student will also conduct graduate-level research of industrial relevance in selected subject areas.

Mastery requires successful completion of twelve modules. The student must also complete an industry-aligned and relevant research dissertation.

Admission requirements

The expected normal minimum entry requirement for the Master of Innovative Technology Engineering will be an accredited NFQ with honors Level 8 2.2. Bachelor of Science or Engineering.

Entry into the programs may also be allowed through the Institute’s Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) process on an individual case-by-case basis. This robust RPL process demonstrates that the candidate’s prior learning (education and experience) has achieved results commensurate with the results of the Level 8 accredited program. Each RPL applicant is required to submit a portfolio of tests that relates prior learning to required outcomes. from Level 8. This folder is reviewed by the joint program leaders and the department head and is complemented by an interview.
