The overall goal of the Master of Nursing (Psychosocial Interventions in Mental Health Care) is to provide RNs with the opportunity to develop and improve their knowledge and skills to implement Evidence-based psychosocial interventions in a variety of mental health settings.
Program description
The general objective of the program is to provide registered nurses with the opportunity to enhance previously acquired professional education and develop critical inquiry, knowledge and skills, attributes and competencies in preparation for developing roles. inside the infirmary. Successful completion of the second year will provide students with academic qualifications to be considered for advanced nursing practice positions. The program provides opportunities to explore research as evidence to improve and change practice. A key emphasis is placed on developing critical thinking and reflection skills at advanced and specialized practice levels.
At the end of the program, the student:
- You will use evidence to inform nursing practice in the follow-up, coordination and management of care. < / li>
- Will critically review current innovations and developments within nursing.
- You will use a knowledge base consistent with that of the profession and incorporating the standards of professional groups. </ span >
- Critically evaluate strategies to promote, maintain, and restore health in relevant care groups. < / li>
- You will critically evaluate, generate and conduct research that incorporates evidence-based practice in nursing. </ li>
- It will critically evaluate the role of the specialist and advanced practice in nursing.
- You will collaborate within multidisciplinary teams in the provision of quality results.
- Critically evaluate international, national and local policy strategies that are relevant to promoting nursing roles. </ span >
- You will discuss the factors that influence practice and theoretical knowledge at specialized / advanced practice levels. </ span >
- Will demonstrate critical thinking skills and ethical decision making necessary for specialized / advanced practice in nursing care .
- Will critically evaluate the use of psychosocial interventions in mental health care.
- Will critically discuss the role of the clinical nurse practitioner / advanced nurse practitioner in the follow-up, coordination and treatment of people experiencing mental health problems.
Program structure
The program is listed as full-time, but is taken part-time. The 90-credit Master’s degree consists of six modules in the first year (postgraduate diploma level 60 credits) and a research thesis in year 2 (master’s level 30 credits).
As part of the clinical practice modules, students must complete 1,100 hours of clinical practice during the two semesters of the first year, in addition to successfully completing psychosocial care competencies specialized.
In year two, students will complete a small-scale research project or systematic review, or practice-based research within a supported framework.
Admission requirements
- Be a registered nurse in the current register of the Irish Nursing and Midwifery Board. </ span >
- Be involved in the practice as a registered nurse for at least one year. </ li>
- Students will normally possess an honors college degree or show evidence of recognized prior learning. </ li >
- Students must work in a practice environment for the duration of the program.
- For international candidates, the foreign equivalent is required. In addition, an officially translated degree will be required.
- IELTS 6.5, with no less than 6 in any component (or its internationally recognized equivalent).
