This one-year cooperative diploma will provide a springboard for a career in the dynamic world of hospitality and tourism. The program is powered by Oracle Hospitality. OPERA Property Management Cloud Service from Oracle Hospitality is a cloud-based, mobile-enabled platform for next-generation hotel property management. You will learn how to use the Oracle Property Management System as if you were working in a hotel.

* Students will be offered paid or unpaid entry level positions related to their field of study. The Professional Services Department will provide full support to students in booking and preparing for interviews. It is the student’s responsibility to perform well during all interviews, as well as throughout the cooperative period. Placements are subject to availability and will vary by program, season, and job market changes, as well as the student’s level of English and prior professional and academic experience. If cooperative placement is not available, the student will be required to complete a Project Capstone as an alternative to graduate from the program.

Program structure

Introduction to Hospitality and Tourism The objective of this module is to provide an understanding of the nature of hospitality and its products from a local and international perspective. You’ll gain a holistic understanding of the industry, including the impacts of hospitality on destination economies, communities, and fragile environments. You are expected to take a critical perspective on the effects of hospitality in your own country and consider how hospitality can play a strategic development role.

The aim of the Food and Beverage Operations module is to provide an understanding of the operational aspects behind this and how to serve an international clientele in a variety of establishments, in order to foster an appreciation of the origins of food and beverage and understand the various factors involved in meeting customer needs. You will gain an understanding of food and wine and its service in a variety of restaurant and establishment styles and gain sufficient knowledge to produce a detailed plan for specific food and beverage operations.

This module presents the systems and procedures necessary for the operations of the reception office. It also emphasizes the importance of high standards in personal qualities and the provision of customer service. You will develop knowledge and skills regarding reception procedures and understand key legislation related to reception procedures. Finally, you will evaluate the suitability of different procedures for a variety of hotel establishments.

This module aims to make an important contribution to the supervision aspects of food hygiene and safety. Supervisors with food safety and health and safety responsibilities must ensure that all personnel operate in a safe, hygienic and efficient manner. The general objectives of this module are to ensure that you are familiar with the key aspects of current legislation, good practices, and health, safety and food safety issues.

The objective of this module is to provide the knowledge, skills, and techniques that will help with the management decision-making process. You will observe the process and practices that take place within a hotel business environment and the analytical skills necessary to understand accounting and financial information.

The aim of this module is to provide a better understanding of what customer service is and how it can provide a quality product or service that meets a customer’s needs / wants. It also emphasizes effective communication skills in customer relationships and services and you will learn to deal with various customer-related situations.

8. Organizational behavior in the hotel industry
This is an introduction to the basic concepts and topics of Organizational Behavior (OB). This module focuses on OB at three levels: individual, interpersonal, and collective. On an individual level, you will cover decision making, motivation and personality; On an interpersonal level, you will cover power, influence, and negotiations. Finally, the course will move on to the collective level, where you will observe groups and change management

Upon completion of the program, you will be required to complete 480 hours of work experience in a suitable business environment. Appropriate business sectors for a location include hotels, restaurants, clubs, and resorts. Work activities will vary by location, but key responsibilities include being supervised at all times, observing all safety and security procedures in the workplace and school, dressing appropriately, interacting professionally with staff, learning about the environment of work and participate in the daily routine. as required by the employer. Admission requirements

  • Have an Ontario high school diploma or equivalent or be at least 18 years old and pass the Wonderlic exam.
  • For international students, a Bachelor’s degree from the country of origin will be required. The degree and grades must be officially translated into English.
  • For non-native English speakers: Successful completion of TSoM EAP Level 4 or Have the required IELTS 5.5 score or equivalent or Pass the TSoM English assessment (written on site or online with the exam proctor). </ li>
